Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Is swimming with whale sharks safe?

Yes. Encounters take place in monitored waters with trained guides, life vests, and safety protocols. You’ll receive a short briefing before entering the water.

2. Can non-swimmers join the whale shark activity?

Absolutely. Life vests are mandatory, and guests may stay on the boat to watch the whale sharks from above.

3. Are the whale sharks guaranteed to appear?

Whale shark sightings in Oslob are highly consistent year-round, but like all wildlife encounters, they cannot be 100% guaranteed.

4. What should I bring?

Swimming clothes, extra clothes, sun protection, waterproof bag, cash for meals or add-ons (e.g. rentals for GoPro/action camera, fins, diving, etc.).

Note: Some tour providers in CCTT already include 1 action camera/GoPro in their tour package. Please check the tour provider's details before booking.

5. I don't have GoPro/waterproof camera, where can I avail of it?

Some tour providers in CCTT already include one Go-Pro/action camera in their package at no additional cost.

In case the provider you have chosen doesn't include one, there is a GoPro/Action Camera rental at Php550 in Oslob and Php600 in Sumilon, to be paid ONSITE. Please note that prices may change without prior notice.

Your tour assistant/driver can have this coordinated for you.

6. How about fins or if I want to dive?

Rental fee for a pair of fins is at Php500.

Scuba Diving with the whale sharks is at Php2,000 per person - no diving license needed.

Fins and Scuba Diving are to be paid ONSITE.

Your tour assistant/driver can coordinate these your behalf.

7. Is this Tour always available?

Please note that Whale Shark watching is closed every Good Friday each year.

Additionally, Sumilon Island and Tumalog Falls are closed every 3rd Wednesday of the Month for scheduled maintenance and clean-up.

We kindly ask guests to review their chosen tour date to ensure it does not fall on these closure days.

8. What should I bring?

Swimming clothes, rash guard, change clothes, sun protection, waterproof bag, cash for meals and/or add-ons.

9. How long do we stay at Sumilon Sandbar?

About 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on tide levels and weather.

10. Will the sandbar be always visible?

Sumilon is a shifting sandbar — its shape and size depend on the tide. Your guide chooses the best timing for visibility.

11. Are Tumalog Falls and Cuartel Ruins both included?

You may choose to include one or both side trips at no additional cost.

Note: Access to Tumalog Falls involves a steep road that may become slippery during rainy conditions. For guest safety, visits may be redirected to Cuartel Ruins if road conditions are not advisable.

12. Is the travel time long for this tour?

Yes — South Cebu routes include 3.5–4.5 hours each way. The experience is worth it, and our private van ensures comfort throughout.

13. Is the tour OK for kids or elderly guests?

Yes. The activities are easy-paced and suitable for families, with the option to stay on the boat during whale shark viewing.
